"Do not employ fake materials, do not rely on cliches and never place the designer's vision for the property ahead of the client's," Jeff Ornstien.

Jeff Ornstein is on the editorial board of National Hotel Executive. Here is a sampling of his articles on industry trends.

Localize: The Latest Word in Hotel Design

"We hit the libraries, downtown, and toured the region to research visual elements that would strike a chord for our client  Marriott Hotels"

The Boutique Hotel: Music to Your Eyes
"If hotels were music, the Hilton would be The New York Philharmonic, it's big, there's a lot going on and yet it all works together, marvelously. A boutique hotel, now that's a jazz quartet or chamber ensemble‹delightful, subtle and above all intimate."

Establishing and Reinforcing a National Brand
"We are seeing more focus on establishing local identities that are reminiscent of the days when every city and resort had had an iconic hotel property, be it the Ritz Carlton in Boston or Raffles in Singapore."

"Is Your Hotel Photography up to Your Interior?"
Don't forget the value of vignettes. An end table with a lamp and club chair on a luxurious carpet says more about the comfort of the lobby and the ability of guests to engage in private conversation than showing a sea of sofas.
